Red sky at night, sailors delight.
Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.
Rain by seven, fine by eleven.
If the groundhog sees its shadow on February 2nd, there will be 6 more weeks of winter
March comes in like a lamb and goes out like a lion. (Or March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.
April showers bring May flowers
Until relatively recently, weather forecasting was based on experience and observation. And to help people remember what these observations meant, catchy sayings would be invented, sayings like;
Red sky at night, sailors delight.
These days, weather forecasting is based on scientific data and much more reliable than things like the grumpy groundhogs that predicted 6 more weeks of winter, or promises of April showers bringing May flowers.
Many of us here in the midwest are used to a couple of feet of winter on our lawns 10 1/2 weeks after that silly rodent's prediction. This year March was a lamb from start to finish. And the April showers have begun. That's not necessarily a bad thing this year. With many of us under Shelter in Place orders, the rain is helping us not feel so bad about having to stay at home and not being outside. And happily, #Nipclub gives us a chance to socialize without breaking the "not congregation" rules or worry about social distancing because we can be "together" without being together.
April showers, whether snow or rain, are still APRIL showers, and after April comes May and spring and flowers. So this week, put on your raincoats and boots, get out the umbrella and let's say goodbye to April with an April Showers pawty!
