What is 'beatnik jazz?'


It's what's known as 'bebop,' or modern jazz, that evolved in the early to mid 40s as a rebellious reaction to the big swing band's rigid, stifled structure.

Jazz artists from the period included Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Max Roach, and others.

Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William S. Burroughs were popular writers in the 50s and 60s who were influenced by the bepop jazz style.


So, come and listen to the music, share some of your favorite poetry, sip some drinks, and enjoy food with good friends!
